Ground your clients — wherever they are.
When anxiety spikes, panic sets in, or a client dissociates mid-session, they need something they can reach for. This beautifully designed, therapist-crafted grounding resource gives them exactly that — a clear, accessible cheat sheet for your office wall and a wallet card they can carry everywhere.
Designed by a DBT and trauma-informed clinician, this resource is part of The Tended Practice suite of professional therapy tools — warm, elegant, and genuinely useful in session.
What's Included
1. Grounding Techniques Cheat Sheet (8.5" × 11")
A full-color, printable reference covering four evidence-based grounding categories:
The Gold Standard — 5-4-3-2-1 Technique: A structured sensory scan to anchor clients in the present moment when thoughts are racing or dissociation begins.
Physical Grounding — The Body Lock: Somatic techniques (floor push, temperature shock, finger counting, body weight awareness) for high-anxiety or panic states.
Mental Grounding — The Focus Shift: Cognitive redirection strategies (categories, room inventory, backwards counting) to interrupt thought loops and catastrophizing.
Soothing Grounding — The Safe Harbor: Gentle, self-compassionate techniques (the 20-second hug, safe place visualization, gentle movement) for emotional rawness or loneliness.
Each section includes a clear "use when" prompt so clients can self-select the right technique in the moment.
2. Grounding Wallet Cards — Print & Cut Sheet (2 pages, 8.5" × 11")
Eight credit card–sized cards printed two per side, ready for double-sided printing and cutting:
4 grounding technique cards (one per category) with key steps
4 affirmation cards clients can carry between sessions
Dashed cut lines included. Standard wallet/credit card size (3.5" × 2").
